The organising committee of the Sydney International Boat Show, the Boating Industry Association Ltd (BIA), have for the first time announced the naming of the marina at the 2018 Sydney International Boat Show as the “David Lockwood Marina”; In memory of David Lockwood, a prominent member of the boating industry who made significant contributions to recreational boating in Australia.
Alan Blake, President of the Boating Industry Association Ltd said, “David was an excellent writer and terrific friend to the boating industry. He was passionate about his writing and reporting of recreational maritime pastimes, contributing to newspapers, magazines and even online video reviews. David passed away after a short illness earlier this year, and we’re immensely proud and pleased David’s family allowed us to share our appreciation of his work in this way.”
David was an icon in the local boating and fishing scene with a long career across both spectrums. He wrote for local magazines and newspapers as well as authoring several fishing books and early videos.
I shared many trips with David and will miss his honest appraisal of the Australian fishing and boating scene. He always had a passion for fishing, but his boating knowledge was without peer. He also had an innate ability to efficiently produce some of the industries’ best and most memorable pieces. His knowledge was expansive covering yachts through to motor yachts.
He will be missed at the Sydney International Boat Show.
David assisted the BIA regularly in many ways. Visitors to the Sydney Show would see him from on stage speaking of the virtues of the boating lifestyle, sharing his favourite boating locations and, of course, sharing tales about boating with the family.
The David Lockwood Marina and the show’s exhibition halls open at 10am on August 2. The 2018 show runs through to August 6 with doors open to 7pm each evening.
