The new unit features a 16 inch high definition screen that includes the SolarMAX HD technology exclusive to this series. It allows for high clarity and resolution with excellent target separation to give you a superb view of the structure below. The size of the unit allows users to split the screen four ways with the equivalent of four seven inch screens on a single display.

The new unit also features dual core processors allowing angler to run StructureScan® 3D with SideScan and DownScan Imaging™, StructureMap™, Broadband Radar™ and SiriusXM® Weather Chart Overlay on the unit and be able to switch between applications seamlessly. The display is 1920 x 1080 HD resolution with a higher operating temperature than conventional units making them ideal for harsh climates such as those found in the top end of Australia.

The display uses IPS (in-plane-switching) which delivers a consistent, accurate colour from all viewing angles. This means you can view it from any place in the boat. They also do not show tailing when touched making them ideal for touch screens such as this. Without getting into the technicalities of IPS thick of the screen on your smart phone or tablet. They are an IPS LCD screen in most cases with LED backlighting.

For keen anglers the HDS Carbon 16 allows you to view and control two independent sonar sources at once, so you could have one at the front and another at the rear of the boat. The unit can also, via wireless connectivity, control a power pole and when combined with the SonicHub 2 can stream music via bluetooth.

The chart plotter function uses high resolution mapping with greater coverage of inland and coastal waterways. It uses a 10 Hz internal GPS antenna. The HDS Carbon 16 is compatible with Insight Genesis™ custom mapping, C-MAP Insight PRO, C-MAP Lake Insight HD, C-MAP MAX-N+, Navionics® and more.

It also can support radar, SmartSteer™ control of Motorguide® Xi5 trolling motors and the Lowrance Outboard Pilot, and full engine data integration highlighted by compatibility with Mercury® VesselView® Link.

“We are confident anglers are going to be excited about HDS Carbon 16, the biggest display ever produced in the 60-year history of Lowrance,” said Leif Ottosson, CEO, Navico. “Combining a 16-inch high definition display with our exclusive SolarMAX HD technology and the high-level performance of the HDS Carbon series will provide anglers with an on the water experience second to none.
