If you are into wakeboarding, wake surfing or sports boats in general, then you’ve probably heard of the US based Mastercraft boat company and quite possibly the Mastercraft XT23. These impressive vessels are highly regarded among wakeboarders with Australian 6x world champion, Harley Clifford among their team riders. That’s an impressive endorsement alone.

The 2017 XT23 doesn’t really need any endorsements when you consider just what they have crammed into this impressive vessel. It is just simply a well thought out and brilliantly appointed boat. The XT sits between the entry level NXT line and the top end Premium X series but it lacks nothing on the water. And not only that, it fits 15 of your friends for a fun filled day on the water.

The computerised dashboard features a control for the ballast and surf system that can, at the touch of a button, dial in the size and shape of the wake for any task, be it wakeboarding, wake surfing, water skiing or simply towing a tube. You can also have a host of pre-programmed settings for individual riders. The ballast system onboard can add 1180 kilograms of ballast in addition to your mates creating an impressive and steep wake.

Mastercraft XT23_9Internally the boat is supremely comfortable with great depth creating a comfortable place to sit on the modular lounge wrapping the internal cockpit and watch all the action out the back. New vinyl for 2017 is an option with new ‘Cool Feel’ vinyl adding to the comfort. This new material remains cool to the touch even after extended exposure to sunlight. Overhead, there is the wake tower with an option for a built in bimini and managed via a button in the console to raise and lower without effort making stowage a breeze.

Power is provided by General Motors, marinised by Illmor with a host of plant options. Standard there is a 5000 MPI V8 model (5.7L). You can upgrade to to the 7000 MPI V8 version (7.4L) or a new 5500 GDI V8 model (5.3L) and the bolder 6000 GDI V8 model (6.0L).
