Simrad has released a new, unlockable add-on feature — VelocityTrack, for its Halo Pulse Compression Radar Systems.

VelocityTrack provides instant visual feedback on the motion of radar targets in relation to the boat, reducing the risk of a collision.

Using the Doppler effect, VelocityTrack enables the radar to determine whether a target is moving toward or away from the boat or if it is stationary. Targets that are moving toward the boat are automatically highlighted with the option to reducing the importance of those objects that are either diverging or retreating from the boat.

A perfect complement to MARPA, VelocityTrack offers an immediate view of all relative target motion, making it easier to pick out targets that need to be tracked and those that can be ignored because they are no longer a collision risk.

Navico CEO, Leif Ottosson, said Simrad was excited to be able to offer an optional premium feature like VelocityTrack to customers without impacting on the base price of the Halo Radar.

“With this feature, the best radar on the market gets even better. We are confident this addition will not only increase boater’s situational awareness, but will help our customers enjoy their time on the water even more,” Mr Ottosson said.

Current owners of the Halo Pulse radar will be able to download VelocityTrack by purchasing an unlock code from a Simrad dealer or from the GoFree shop.
