Yamaha Motor Australia has tweaked the 2018 WaveRunner line-up, introducing a new flagship model, alongside new graphic and colour combinations previously unseen in Australia. The 2018 WaveRunner range has been designed to cater for all levels of riders at all levels with beginners, weekend-adventurers,family-riders,sports-enthusiast, racers, and serious tourers all finding something in the line up.

“Following from a year of achievements on the water with the successful-debut of the GP1800 and rec-lite EX series, it’s fantastic to witness the continued-evolution of the WaveRunner range with the new 2018 models,” said Mark Harman from Yamaha Motor Australia.

“Yamaha’s 2018 WaveRunner range is the most complete watercraft range ever offered and features arguably the most exciting and feature-packed models ever seen on Australian shores.”

The range is headed with the introduction of the new-to-Australia FX Limited SVHO, a Luxury-Performance model which we caught a sniff of earlier this year and which debuted in the USA in 2017. This evolution of the previous-generation FX Cruiser SVHO continues the tradition with four flush-mount mooring cleats and all new CNC-cut deck matts. These sit alongside a 3-person Cruiser Seat, RiDE dual throttle controls, Rider-assist controls and Yamaha’s exclusive chop-conquering and dry-riding FX hull. Power is supplied, according to Yamaha by the industry’s largest capacity personal watercraft powertrain; Yamaha’s Supercharged, 1.8 litre, four-cylinder, Super Vortex High Output (SVHO) marine engine.

The Recreational Lite market was where the excitement lay last year with the introduction of the EX and EX Deluxe WaveRunners (see previous review here) and now new colours enhance the appeal even further. These were on display at the Sydney International Boat Show recently with the 2018 EX available in White with Blue while the Deluxe comes in Electric Green with Carbon Metallic and all new Nova Blast Blue Metallic. They certainly looked eye catching.

In the value segment, the Recreational range the VX series consists of three models, the flagship VX Limited finished in Crimson Red with Black Metallic, the VX Deluxe in Azure Blue with Black Metallic and the entry-model VX in Electric Green with White.

For hardy racers, the GP1800 headed the podium in both domestic and international competition, claiming the 2017 Pro-Stock Class Australian Title at the hands of Yamaha’s Mitch Wayt, and in the process becoming the most successful watercraft on the circuit in 2017. In 2018 the Race Inspired range is led by the GP1800 in two colours with Team Yamaha Blue and the striking Torch Red Metallic. Alongside the GP1800, the naturally aspirated VXR will come in a new Black with Azure Blue Metallic, and an unmistakable Matte Carbon with Black Metallic.

The SuperJet has also had a makeover with a new White, Green with Blue combination.

Yamaha WaveRunners are handcrafted in the USA with powertrains built in Japan to deliver the most reliable, innovative and performance packed watercraft on the water.

The 2018 range is expected to be available through Australian WaveRunner Dealerships in Quarter 4, 2017.
